Berlin Villas

Late in 2016 we completed a three part feasibility study and masterplan for a early 20th Century West Berlin villa with modernist extension. Here are a number of options we proposed for the development of one or more townhouses in the grounds of the villa.

One Carter Lane

Completed in early 2015 One Carter Lane is a workplace we designed for engineering company Cundall. It showcases a number of our ideas about the workplace and how it needs to evolve to embrace a more diverse range of types of work including dedicated spaces for research and development in the workplace, more active ways of working and health and wellbeing. The majority of the furniture including the desk system, tables and shelving was designed by us and made locally to tight environmental and sustainability standards underlining Cundall’s commitments as a “One Planet Company”.

The project was the first in Europe to be accredited with the Well Building Standard.

Proposal / 2013/2014 / Designed in collaboration with Ricardo Gomes of KWY / Engineering assistance: Art-Engineering / Photos by Frida Gregersen

10m Bridge

This research project, undertaken with Ricardo Gomes of KWY, considered how to create a 10 metre long bridge from 10mm thick laser or CNC cut sheet material. The pattern is based on a wrought iron lattice traditionally used in fences and gates in English garden design as well as for larger structures. The pattern modification has been the result of a detailed investigation involving both “finite element” structural studies and parametric modelling to vary the pattern shape and size. This formulation allows for the removal of the most material where the stresses are lowest and the least where they are highest. A plywood prototype of the bridge was built for KWY’s exhibition Techne at the Den Frie museum in Copenhagen in 2014.

Fifth wall

Fifth Wall is a proposal for a temporary performance space envisaged to be made of lightweight blocks, plays homage to the grandeur and exoticism of old movie palaces and theatre stages that arose during the 1920-1930’s in America.
